The Comfort Maple

The Comfort Maple

2017

24x36 (includes deep black wood frame, 26x38")

The Comfort Maple is widely believed to be the oldest and finest sugar maple tree in Canada. This one half acre area was part of the land purchased by the Comfort family in 1816 and later entrusted to the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority to protect this ‘old growth’ tree for its historical and biological significance.

In 1975, the tree was estimated to be 400-500 years old by the Ontario Forestry Association. Located in the Town of Pelham in the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario, Canada, this tree towers about 80 feet at its crown with a trunk circumference of 20 feet.

This is a special piece created to honour Canada's 150th anniversary. Read more about it HERE.
