2016 24x18" SOLD This historic specimen stands on a property right by the Thames River in Kent County, Ontario. At 116 ft, it may be the largest standing Eastern Cottonwood in North America. Its age has been determined at 250 years. Imagine what this grand old lady has seen in her lifetime! In this piece, I felt that this native North American individual could easily stand in for the Great Cosmic Tree of Norse mythology: the tree which unites the earth's center to the heavens. Trees are all about connections, be they historical, spiritual or biological. They are the great stabilizers for the natural environment. |
